Customs seize abortion pills worth Rs 2 million imported from India under the guise of vitamins.
The Customs unit of Katunayake airport seized a stock of illegal medicinal drugs including abortion tablets that were brought to Sri Lanka from Chennai under the guise of vitamins.
The plane which carried the stock of illegal drugs arrived in the island yesterday, while the customs discovered the stock when they opened the goods today.
The stock of medicinal drugs were packed in 51 bags with an estimated value of 2 million rupees.
These drugs have not been registered under the Cosmetics, Devices and Drugs Regulatory Authority and have been ordered by a businessman in Colombo.
The businessman has paid 14 thousand 500 rupees as Customs duty.
