11 killed in accidents within 24 hours.-Video

11 individuals have died in road accidents within the past 24 hours while 16 have sustained injuries.

The latest accident was reported from the Gane-thanna area in Mawanella, along the Colombo-Kandy main road.

The accident occurred when a motorbike in which mother, father and two children were travelling in collided with a bus this morning.

The 37 year old father and a 7 year old boy died in the incident.

The other child and the mother who sustained injuries are receiving treatment at the Kegalle hospital.

Meanwhile 2 individuals died and 2 others sustained serious injuries when two motorbikes collided head-on in the Kotalawala area in Bandaragama.

Four individuals died yesterday when a three-wheeler and a cab collided head-on near the Kekirawa town, along the Kekirawa-Anuradhapura main road.

A pedestrian died and 4 others sustained injuries when a van hit a pedestrian and a bus in the Kumbugaha-mula area in Wariyapola.

At a media briefing held in Colombo today Police Media spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said that a special operation will be underway to identify those violating traffic laws.
