Six persons drowned in different areas of the island during the past 24 hours.

Two among them drowned during bathing in Hakwatuna reservoir in Polpitigama last evening and another two went missing while bathing in Kelani River near 5th mile post on the Ambatale Wellampitiya road yesterday.

Police Media Spokesman office stated the bodies of the two victims are lying at the Polpitigama hospital mortuary and navy divers found the bodies of the other two youth this morning.

Meanwhile a 6-year old boy went missing while bathing with his family members in the sea near Uswetakeiyawa beach yesterday.

The body of the boy has been found after it was washed ashore this morning.

In addition 3 girls were rescued by a resident while they were drifting away by waves in the sea near Kosgoda.
