Body of a teacher murdered by Devala caretaker exhumed from devala premises.-Video
The body of female teacher attached to Gonakale Tamil Vidyalaya was exhumed before the Badulla Acting Magistrate and the Judicial Medical Officer of the Badulla hospital today.
41-year old Alankaram Saraswathi was murdered mysteriously and buried in the Meedum-pitiya Naga Devalaya premises in Passara.
Acting on a complaint by the victim’s husband, police checked the telephone numbers of the victim’s mobile phone and arrested the caretaker of the Naga Devalaya.
Later police identified a place where the body of the victim was buried.
Meanwhile the caretaker of the Devalaya has been hospitalized after attempting to commit suicide following a call from the police to record a statement in connection with the murder.
However Badulla Magistrate Maheshika Priyadarshani de Silva has remanded the suspect until 27th of this month.
Investigations revealed the murder was committed after the victim visited the Devalaya to get a ritual performed for her 6 year old daughter.
Police also suspect the teacher might have been killed to rob her gold jewelry.
