India says Sri lanka assured to empower 13th amendment.
India says Sri Lanka has assured India that it is committed to implementing the 13th amendment to the constitution.
Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said India’s stand is that whatever decision has been taken by Sri Lanka for its people should be implemented.
The 13th amendment to Sri Lankan constitution sought to set up provincial councils with specified powers in the country, in accordance with the provisions of the Indo-Sri Lanka Accord of 1987, to give more powers to the minorities.
Meanwhile, Following inputs that some suspicious persons, having terror links, might intrude into India from Sri Lanka via sea route, the Indian district administration and police have strengthened coastal security by constituting ‘Coastal Security Ramnad,’ a standing committee to facilitate coordinated action by pooling intelligence.
