Propaganda material of final election rallies should be removed within 12 hours: Election Commissioner
The Election Commissioner has ordered that all propaganda material used for final election rallies should be removed within 24 hours.
He has also instructed police to remove the campaign material if the relevant political party organizers would ignore the order.
The Election Commissioner recently permitted candidates to display propaganda material such as posters, decorations, flags and billboards within a reasonable radius of campaign rallies.
Earlier election candidates were allowed to display propaganda material only at the election rally premises.
After a meeting with party secretaries, the Election Commissioner later decided to permit election material around propaganda rallies to be addressed by party leaders.
The period for propaganda campaign for the Uva Provincial Council election will conclude this midnight.
The final two rallies of the UPFA will be held with the participation of President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Wellawaya and Mahiyanganaya this afternoon.
Meanwhile the final rally of the UNP will be held with the participation of UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Winds Park in Badulla while JVP’s final rally will be held at Ridimaliyadda in Mahiyanganaya this afternoon.
Meanwhile, Police media spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana stated that 45 persons have been arrested on election related complaints.
