UVA propaganda ends: 7 admitted to hospital due to gas balloons bursting at an election meeting. 2 UNP and Alliance groups also clash at Bandarawela.
Several accidents were reported from several areas yesterday, the last day of Uva provincial council election propaganda.
Police media spokesman’s office said that one person had been admitted to the Diyatalaawa hospital with injuries sustained at a clash that took place between UNP and UPFA supporters at Maathotilla in Bandarawela last afternoon.
Meanwhile seven women with burn injuries sustained as a result of a stock of gas balloons exploding during an election rally organized by the UPFA in Waellawaaya last night were admitted to the Waellawaaya hospital and transferred to the Ambilipitiya Base Hospital for further treatment.
A Waellawaaya hospital spokesperson told our news team that burn wounds too were seen on the faces of some women.
One person was killed and 31 more were hospitalised with injuries sustained in an accident that had taken place during a propaganda that was held at the Bandarawela town.
UPFA Uva Provincial Council candidate Sendil Thondaman too was wounded in the accident and transferred to the Colombo National hospital for further treatment after admission to the Diyatalaawa hospital.
UPFA candidate Sendil Thondaman and his supporters were engaged in their final propaganda activities last afternoon in Main Street, Bandarawela.
On this occasion a jeep belonging Sentil Thondaman had accidentally collided against supporters in the location.
