Russia to sign extradition treaty with Sri Lanka

Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed the Ministry of Justice to sign extradition agreements with Sri Lanka, according to a statement published on Russia's official website of legal information yesterday.

Treaty with Sri Lanka involves the transfer of convicts to imprisonment.

According to the Sri Lankan government an Extradition Treaty with Russia would enable Sri Lanka to request for the extradition of persons of concern who have engaged in illegal acts in the country and sought refuge in Russia, for criminal prosecution or execution of sentences.
