The resolution preventing allocations for Wali-oya passed in Northern Provincial council
The resolution presented by Northern Provincial Council Deputy Chairman Anthony Jeganathan to prevent allocation for the development of Weli Oya Division has been passed today.
Our correspondent stated that ruling TNA member seconded the resolution as it was presented during today’s sessions.
However the Opposition Councilors including UPFA member A. Jayathilaka raised objection to the resolution claiming Wali Oya is coming legally under Mullaitivu district.
However Northern Provincial Council Chairman C.V.K. Sivagnanam stated that the resolution was passed in Council session.
Meanwhile a senior officer attached to the Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry said Weli Oya Division legally comes under Mullaitivu district from the beginning.
He also said administration of the Weli Oya Division was brought temporarily under Anuradhapura District due to lack of road access during the war.
He said the administration activities of the Weli Oya Division has been separated from the Anuradhapura district and returned to the Mullaitivu district after the war ended.
The senior officer said a new gazette notification was published with regard to the replacement of Weli Oya under Mullaitivu district.
He said that the right to demarcate land does not come under the purview of a Provincial Council, and it comes under the Central Government instead.
