India questioned the UN Human Rights Commission whether it would be able to present a proper report on the alleged human rights violations without the cooperation of Sri Lankan government.

The updated report of new Human Rights Chief Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein with regard to the investigation on Sri Lanka was presented at UNHRC sessions yesterday.

Later during the time for comment, Indian representative pointed out that the structure of the investigation on Sri Lanka, its operation and the means of raising funds should be shared among the Human Rights Commission member countries with transparency.

The Indian representative further said that the UN should extend cooperation and assists the country in bringing reconciliation to the country.

He also pointed out the importance of entering into a productive dialogue with Sri Lanka.

He further pointed out during the Geneva sessions yesterday that India would support the LLRC recommendations; therefore 13th Amendment should be implemented to achieve a lasting political solution in the country.

A division was seen among the Human Rights Commission membership after the oral report on Sri Lanka was presented yesterday.

The European Union insisted that the international investigation should definitely be held while the U.K. and Montenegro expressed similar ideas.

But several other countries including China, Russia, Cuba and Venezuela expressed their views against the UN investigation on Sri Lanka.
