Final decision regarding the budget debate next week; Appropriation draft bill to the Supreme Court.
The Chief government whip Minister Dinesh Gunawardena stated that they will decide the dates to hold the Budget debate for 2015 during the party leaders meeting to be held next week.
The minister added, the Appropriation Bill for the next year has already been submitted to the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court will decide if it’s in line with the constitution within 21 days.
Minister Dinesh Gunawardena further stated that there is a possibility to hold the budget debate earlier than the previous years.
Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne presented the Appropriation Bill comprising the Government’s expenditure estimated at 1812 billion rupees to the parliament last Friday.
A heated debate occurred following the presentation, regarding whether the budget debate will be held in advance compared to the previous years.
When the chief Opposition whip, MP John Amaratunga raised a question regarding the matter, Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne and the Chief government whip Minister Dinesh Gunawardena expressed their views in response.
