TNA disappointed about Jayalaltiha's jail term
Jayalalithaa Jeyram, who is in a Bangalore prison after being convicted of corruption, has appealed against her verdict and applied for bail in the Karnataka High Court, which will hear her case tomorrow.
In Chennai, her loyal aide O. Panneerselvam has taken over as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
63 year old Panneerselvam, broke down while taking his oath today.
Panneerselvam has served as a replacement for Jayalalitha earlier as well.
He took over as Chief Minister for her in 2001 when she had to step down for six months following her conviction in a land deal case.
Meanwhile we made inquiries from several political parties on the current situation faced by Tamil Nadu following the arrest of Jayalalitha Jeyaram and the effect this situation may have on Sri Lankan politics.
TNA parliamentarian Selvam Addekkala-nadan said that Jayalalitha is a friend of the Tamil community in Sri Lanka.
He noted that her arrest is a cause of disappointment for the Tamil community.
Leader of Nawa Sama Samaja Party Wickramabahu Karunaratne elaborated on the impact to the country due to changes in Tamil Nadu following Jayalalitha Jayaram losing her Chief Ministerial position.
According to the EPDP Leader Douglas Devananda, the situation of Tamil Nadu will have no impact on Sri Lankan Tamil people.
