Ukraine's truce and troops withdrawal deal lay in tatters today, after the deadliest wave of attacks by pro-Russian insurgents in more than a month left 9 soldiers and 4 civilians dead.

13 soldiers and civilians were killed in 24 hours, in the worst violence since the government and pro-Russian insurgents struck a shaky truce in their 5 month conflict.

The European-brokered peace deal finalised a week ago in Minsk commits the Ukrainian army and rebels to cease fire and to separate themselves with a 30-kilometre buffer zone.
