The Prisons Department has decided to introduce a method for prisoners to hold telephone conversations with their relatives.

It is intended to implement this initially in the Welikada Prison on a trial basis.

In response to a query by our news team Prisons and Rehabilitation Reforms Minister Chandrasiri Gajadheera said that this was being implemented to prevent mobile phones being brought into the prison.
