6 deaths due to disaster: Heavy falls more than 100mm in several provinces today as well: Land slide risk in 5 districts.-Video
Disaster Management Centre Deputy Media Director Sarath Laal Kumaara states that due to heavy showers 10 houses in Vilgoda in Kurunegala were submerged yesterday.
In addition to the death of four persons reported to the Disaster Management Centre, two more deaths were reported yesterday.
One of these was from the Colombo Cinnamon Garden Queen’s Street Junction and the other from Idigaswewa in Kekirawa.
The driver of a three-wheeler was killed when a branch of a tree fell on his trishaw at the Queen’s Street Junction.
The deceased three-wheeler driver was a 48-year old resident of Vilegoda in Bandaaragama.

Meanwhile the National Building Research Institute said that during the next 24 hours there is a risk of landslides, falling of rocks and earth slips in the Kegalle, Matale, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and areas in the Kurunegala District close to the Kandy District.
The meteorology department states that Showers or thundershowers will be fairly widespread over the island during the afternoon and night.
Heavy falls more than 100 mili meters are also likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces.
Showers will occur in the Western and Southern coastal areas during the morning too.
There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.
Duty Meteorologist Channa Rodrigo requests the General public to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.
