Victim of Ratnapura police assault goes to Supreme Court seeking Rs 50 million compensation-Video

The woman who was subjected to police assault in Rathnapura town recently Weerasinghe Arachchilage Kanthi Latha alias Batti is preparing to file a case in the Supreme Court seeking a compensation of 50 million rupees.

In addition, she filed a petition with the Human Rights Commission today complaining her rights were violated.

The video on which a policeman is assaulting a woman at the Rathnapura town was first published in the social media website facebook.

The video footage highlighted how the victim was pleading the assailant policeman not to continue beating her.

Police investigations were initiated on the incident after different Media gave publicity to the same video footage.

Meanwhile the police sergeant attached to the Ratnapura police station who is allegedly involved in the assault has been suspended.
