The woman beaten by policeman in Rathnapura to report to police today
The woman who was allegedly beaten by a police sergeant in Ratnapura town, Weerasinghe Arachchilage Kanthilatha alias Batti filed a fundamental rights case in the Supreme Court this morning.
In her rights case, Kanthilatha has demanded 50 million rupees as compensation.
A video on which a policeman is beating a woman at Ratnapura town was first published on the social media website - facebook.
Police investigations were initiated on the incident after different Media gave publicity to the same video footage.
Later the assailant was identified as a police sergeant attached to the Ratnapura police station and consequently the police headquarters suspended his service.
Meanwhile responding to the open invitation extended to Kanthilatha by Police Media Spokesman yesterday, she is scheduled to give a statement to police at Police Headquarters this afternoon.
