Seeduwa rehabilitation centre from which 2 inmates escaped and drowned is not registered.-Video
The Social Services Department confirmed that the rehabilitation center located by the Dandu-gam Oya in Seeduwa from which 3 inmates escaped and died is not registered with the department.
7 inmates of this center called Bedesda went missing last Wednesday and 4 of them had returned home.
Later the bodies of two inmates were found in the neighborhood of the Negombo lagoon.
Police identified one of the deceased as a 41-year old resident of the Preethipura Road, Elakanda.
The body of the second escapee was found this morning and he was identified as a 36-year old resident of Dehiwala.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that information is yet to be revealed about the 3rd missing escapee.
Police suspect the two escapees might have drowned while crossing the Dandugam Oya.
However Director of the Social Services Department Anusha Gokula said that this rehabilitation center is not registered with the government.
When our news team enquired her about the legal actions that could be taken against such a center, Anusha Gokula said that there are no legal provisions to act against such establishments.
