The woman who was allegedly beaten by a police sergeant in Ratnapura town, Weerasinghe Arachchilage Kanthilatha alias Batti handed over a written complaint to the IGP this afternoon.
Kanthilatha reported to police headquarters after the open invitation extended by Police Media Spokesman to do so during a media briefing held yesterday.
Meanwhile she filed a fundamental rights case with the Supreme Court this morning demanding 50 million rupees as compensation.
A video on which a policeman is beating a woman at Ratnapura town was first published on the social media website - facebook.
Police investigations were initiated on the incident after different Medias gave publicity to the same video footage.
Later the assailant was identified as a police sergeant attached to the Ratnapura police station and consequently the police headquarters suspended his service.
