Another party leaders meeting to be held on Thursday, says Chief Opposition Whip
Chief Whip of the Opposition John Amaratunga said another meeting of party leaders will be held on next Thursday to finalize the dates for 2015 budget debate.
He made this statement after the party leaders meeting presided by Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody at the parliament complex today.
Parliament Secretary Dhammika Dasanayake told our news team that a time table for the budget debate was also presented to the meeting
President Mahinda Rajapaksa is to present the budget for 2015 on October 24th.
The government had proposed to open the second reading of the budget debate on October 25th and continue it for 5 days.
It had also proposed to hold the second reading on the 30th and Committee level debate on the 31st to be continued for 15 days.
The proposal stated to hold the third reading of the budget and vote taking on November 18th.
However MP John Amaratunga has said that he wanted to discuss the government time table with his parliamentary group before a final decision is taken.
