Low pressure area in the South-east Bay of Bengal to intensify into a depression.-Video
The meteorology department states that the low pressure area in the South-east Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression and it will affect the weather over the deep and shallow sea areas off Eastern coasts.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Heavy rain falls more than 100 mili meters are also likely at some places.
Thundershowers will develop at several places elsewhere during the afternoon or evening.
Duty meteorologist Pabodini Karunapala requests the General public to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.
Meanwhile, 33 vessels which ventured into international waters to engage in fishing activities have drifted towards Myanmar maritime border due to a depression developing in the area south east of Bay of Bengal
The vessels carried 180 fishermen who ventured into sea from Devi-nuwara, Gandara, Nil-wella, Dik-wella, Beruwala and Galle areas.
3 vessels which entered the maritime border of Myanmar yesterday were seized by their security units since they were not properly informed regarding the changes of the weather condition.
However, the Secretary of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Ministry D.M.R.B. Dissanayake told our news team that they have informed Bangladesh and Myanmar to provide refuge to the fishermen affected by the depression.
