Railway strike from midnight today: Disciplinary action against prison officials even if solutions are provided.
The Joint Trade Union Alliance for Railway Employees has decided to stage a 24 hour strike from midnight today for not providing a solution for the salary anomalies issue.
Convener of the Joint Trade Union Alliance for Railway Employees, Janaka Fernando stated that station masters, engine drivers, rail guards and employees belonging to 11 grades will take part in the strike.
Meanwhile the strike launched by the Prison Guards and several other prison officials of the Colombo remand, Magasin and Welikada prisons was called off last afternoon.
A discussion was held under the patronage of Prisons commissioner General Chandrarathna Pallegama and any demands of the prison officials were fulfilled.
However, Prisons commissioner General Chandrarathna Pallegama stated that disciplinary action will be taken against prison officials who were engaged in the strike.
