The Department of Meteorology stated the current depression in the Bay of Bengal is developing to a cyclone and it is moving towards Andra Pradesh in India.
Meteorology Department Director General Lalith Chandrapala said heavy rain will lash intermittently in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central provinces as well as in the Galle and Matara districts due to the inclement weather.
Meanwhile Nuwara Eliya District Secretary D.P.G. Kumarasiri says spill gates of the Wimalasurendra reservoir have been opened due to heavy rain in the area.
He also warned the people living in earth slip prone areas to take caution during the rainy weather as rocks could fall and landslips could occur due to heavy showers.
