Sabaragamuwa University will remain closed until the last student leaves: Vice Chancellor informs the students.
The inter university students federation states that they will not give up their struggle until the university administration reinstate the suspended student bodies of the university.
However Sabaragamuwa University Vice Chancellor Professor Chandana Udawatta says he would not take a decision about the reopening of the university until its students vacate themselves from the hostels.
The university administration closed the hostel after a group of female students forcefully entered the Sinharaja boys’ hostel.
A commotion erupted on the 5th when Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake arrived in the university to open two buildings for female students.
The students staged a protest at the Pambahinna Junction preventing the minister to enter the university premises.
They also charged that the constructions of the two buildings were substandard.
Later police used water cannons to disperse students and clear the way for the minister to enter the opening ceremony premises.
Sabaragamuwa University Vice Chancellor Professor Chandana Udawatta stated that legal action will be taken to remove the students are remaining in the hostel.
