The meteorology department states that under the influence of Severe Cyclonic Storm “Hudhud” in the Bay of Bengal, showery weather in the south western and Northern parts and strong windy conditions over the island and in the surrounding sea areas can be expected.

As the storm moves towards the Indian coast the rain and heavy winds experienced in several areas are expected to decline in intensity by today.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western and Northern provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.

Heavy rain falls more than 100 mili meters are also likely at some places.

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.

Duty meteorologist Jeewan Karunarathna requests the General public to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.
