10 districts prone to landslides if rain persists today.
The national building research institute states that if heavy showers continue there is a risk of landslides and rock falls occurring in 10 districts.
Kegalle, Rathnapura,Mathale,Kandy,Badulla,Nuwara-Eliya, Kaluthara,Mathara,Galle and Hambanthota districts are prone to landslides and rock falls.
The meteorology department states that under the influence of Cyclonic Storm “Hudhud” in the Bay of Bengal, strong windy conditions over the island and in the surrounding sea areas can be expected further.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Thundershowers will develop at several places in the Uva, North central and Eastern provinces during the afternoon or evening.
Duty Meteorologist P D Ananda Perera requests the General public to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.
