Several shops near Dambulla Economic Center which is located in a land belonging to Deputy Petroleum Industries Minister Sarana Gunawardana were gutted down by a fire last evening.

Police also said Dambulla Municipal Council Fire fighting unit was called to control the fire.

A person has obtained the land from Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardana on lease, put up stalls and given them on rent to individuals.

The same shops were destroyed by fire on a previous occasion as well but investigations revealed the cause of fire was an electricity leak.

However the cause of yesterday’s fire was not revealed as yet and police are investigating to ascertain whether any sabotage is behind the incident.

Meanwhile Attanagalla Chief Magistrate M.Y.M. Irshadeen issued an arrest warrant on Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardana and Attanagalla Pradeshiya Sabha member Gihan Chintaka.

The duo has been charged for attacking an ongoing housing construction site in the area.

The arrest warrants on the Deputy Minister and the PS member who were on bail, were issued as they did not appear in court when the particular case was taken for hearing yesterday.
