CWC and Upcountry people's front clash in Kothmale; PC member S Ramesh assaults Deputy Minister Rada Krishnan's private secretary.-Video
A tense situation erupted in the Kothmale Divisional coordinating meeting today as Ceylon Workers Congress raised objections to a proposed iron bridge project in the area.
At the outset of the meeting presided by Upcountry People’s Front political leader and deputy minister V. Radhakrishnan, CWC Provincial Councilor S. Ramesh said that an injustice has been caused to his party in implementing the project.
Several area politicians including deputy minister V. Radhakrishnan’s son and Central Provincial Council member R. Rajaram and Kothmale Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Ajith Dharmakeerthi participated in the meeting held at the Divineguma hall in Kothmale.
A heated situation occurred when coordinating committee chairman and deputy minister V. Radhakrishnan and his son CPC member R. Rajaram intervened in CWC member R. Ramesh’s claim that his party was discriminated while distributing funds for iron bridges in the area.
The situation got heated further as Provincial Councilor S. Ramesh attempted to assault Provincial Councilor R. Rajaram.
After police intervened to settle the two factions, R. Ramesh left the meeting venue.
Deputy Minister V. Radhakrishnan cut short his meeting and came out from the conference hall with his private secretary.
Deputy Minister V. Radhakrishnan charged that at that point, R. Ramesh assaulted his private secretary.
He said that his private secretary was later admitted to hospital, and a complaint was lodged with the Nuwara Eliya police.
CWC Provincial Councilor S. Ramesh was also admitted to Kothmale hospital claiming that he was also assaulted.
