FUTA charges that Eastern University Vice Chancellor has no basic qualifications.
The Federation of University Teachers Association states that Eastern University Vice Chancellor Dr. K. Govindaraj has no basic qualifications to hold his current post.
Federation’s Secretary Professor Rohan Fernando told our news team that in such a backdrop, Dr. Govindaraj has applied to the position once again.
Professor Fernando said that Dr. Govindaraj is not qualified to hold a position in a government institution as he is a Canadian citizen.
The charges against Dr. Govindaraj have already been served to him in writing through the Higher Education Ministry and the University Grants Commission.
The Federation of University Teachers Association said although the Vice Chancellor agreed to answer the allegations within one month, he has not done it as yet.
When our news team contacted Dr. Govindaraj to enquire about the allegations made against him, he said he applied for the post as the vacancy is already advertised.
He also said he bears the necessary qualifications required in the advertisement.
Later our news team enquired University Grants Commission Chairperson Kshanika Hirimburegama whether the UGC is ready to offer the vice Chancellor post of the Eastern University to a person who is charged for not having Sri Lankan citizenship.
UGC Chairperson Hirimburegama said that there is no barrier for Dr. Govindaraj to apply for the position as he has already held the post of Vice Chancellor of the Eastern University.
