Sri Lanka has the least number of hungry people in South Asia
According to the 2014 Global Hunger Index released yesterday showed Sri Lanka has the least number of hungry people in South Asia and the number of people going hungry has steadily declined.
Sri Lanka ranked 39th this year, four notches above last year's rank, in the Global Hunger Index , released for the ninth year by the International Food Policy Research Institute.
The 2014 GHI examines levels of hunger in 120 developing countries and countries in transition.
Elsewhere in south Asia, India made some progress this year in reducing poverty level ranking 55th out of 76 countries ahead of Bangladesh and Pakistan.
