No risk of Sanchi Bo sapling dying: says Mahabodi Society chairman Banagala Upathissa thero.
The Mahabodhi Society states that the Bo sapling planted in the premises of World Buddhist University of Sanchi in the Madya Pradesh of India is not dying.
Mahabodhi Society Chairman and Sanchi Chetiya Temple chief incumbent Banagala Upatissa Thera said that Indian authorities have already taken remedial measures to protect the Bo sapling.
Indian media reported recently that leaves of the Bo sapling were withering due to lack of water.
This Bo sapling is symbolically significant as it is an offshoot of the same tree that was carried by Sanghamitta, daughter of king Ashoka, to Sri Lanka around 2,300 years ago.
Upatissa Thera further said that soon after the incident was reported to him, he informed the Indian authorities to take remedial action to save the Bo sapling.
