The workers of Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery are staging a protest since this morning.
The protestors charge despite the Medical Research Institute’s warning, the authorities have forced its 1500 workers to drink water contaminated with bacteria.
The MRI has informed the authorities on the 29th of last month that the drinking water provided to the factory workers was contaminated.
Vice President of the Sri Lanka Nidahas Sevaka Sangamaya Premantha Gamage told our news team the authorities did not inform the workers about the water contamination till yesterday.
Our news team attempted to contact Petroleum Corporation Acting Chairman S. Amarasekera and its Managing Director Susantha de Silva to comment on this matter.
However our attempt was futile as both the Acting Chairman and the Managing Director did not respond to our calls.
