61 houses have been damaged in Ruwan-walla and Yatiyanthota areas in the Kegalle District yesterday due to strong winds and thundershowers.

Deputy Director of the Disaster Management centre Pradeep Kodipillai stated that 1 death has also been reported.

The meteorology department states that Atmospheric conditions are still favorable for afternoon showers with lightning.

Thundershowers will be fairly widespread over the island during the afternoon and night.

Heavy falls more than 100 mili meters are also likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, North-western and Southern provinces.

Duty meteorologist Channa Rodrigo requests the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.
