A group around 20 Buddhist monks of Ravana Balaya led by its General Secretary Iththakande Saddhatissa Thera visited the Foreign Employment Bureau of Koswatta at Battaramulla this morning.
The Ravana Balaya monks expected to request its Chairman to take immediate action to bring down the expatriates who have become victims at the hands of their Middle East employers.
The group that arrived at the bureau at 10 in the morning entered the office of Foreign Employment Bureau Chairman Amal Senadhilankara.
The monks handed over a letter to the bureau chairman stating that necessary actions have not been taken to mitigate the harassments committed on the workers by their foreign employers.
At this juncture, a tense situation erupted as bureau chairman said that he did not have time to talk to the monks as they were present in his office without prior notice.
A heated argument took place between Ravana Balaya General Secretary Iththakande Saddhatissa Thera and Foreign Employment Bureau Chairman Amal Senadhilankara.
Later the monks came out from the chairman’s office to have a conversation with the bureau’s deputy general manager Mangala Randeniya.
