The Supreme Court today granted permission to proceed a petition filed by the suspects of the Bambalapitiya businessman Mohammad Siyam murder case on the 21st of this month.

The suspects state in their petition that a panel of three High Court Judges has no authority to hear the Mohammad Siyam murder case.

The petition filed by 7 suspects of the Mohammad Siyam murder case including former DIG Vass Gunawardana was taken before a panel of 5 Supreme Court Judges led by Chief Justice Mohan Peries today.

The lawyers appearing for the petitioners stated their clients were arrested and investigated under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

They said therefore the decision to hear their case before a panel of 3 judges is illegitimate.
