Presenting the budget proposals in parliament today, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said that the basic salary of government servants will be increased up to Rs. 15,000.

The president also noted that a special tax will be imposed on vehicle imports.

The budget proposals also include a 10% relief to first 25 units of domestic water bill and an increase in the mahapola bursary to 4000 rupees.

The members of the government and the opposition expressed various views regarding the 2015 budget.
