Commonwealth Secretary General to arrive in the country today
Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma is to arrive in the island today for a 5 day visit.
Commonwealth Secretary General Sharma expects to inform President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is also the current President of the Commonwealth, about the progress of the implementation of the projects those were proposed during CHOGM held in Colombo last November.
The President’s Media Unit confirmed that Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma would meet the president at Temple Trees tomorrow.
He is also scheduled to have discussions with External Affairs Minister G.L. Peries, Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa and several other political party leaders.
Dr. Sharma will make a tour of the North as well, and expect to observer the progress of development activities taken place after the war.
He is also expected to make an assessment over the current situation in the North as well as the prevailing challenges in the area.
