A constable attached to the Neluwa police station has been injured as the service weapon belonging to a sub inspector fired accidentally.

A police team, including the sub inspector and the constable, have followed a three wheeler which sped away without obeying police signals.

Police Media Spokesman Office stated that after the driver of the three-wheeler was arrested, and its driver had engaged in a fisticuff with the sub inspector.

At that point, the sub inspector’s service weapon had fired accidentally injuring the constable in the sub inspector’s side.

Meanwhile the post mortem of the body of the policeman found in Wellawatta beach yesterday is scheduled to be held today.
