The 7 suspects in remand in connection with the attack on the Sabaragamuwa students’ Sathyagraha hut at Pambahinna were released on bail today.

Balangoda Magistrate Lalith Kannangara released the suspects, each on 250 thousand personal bail and fixed the next hearing to be taken on the 10th of March next year.

11 students were injured when an attack was unleashed on the Sathyagraha hut used by Sabaragamuwa University students at Pambahinna Junction on the 10th of this month.

Imbulpe Pradeshiya Sabha UPFA member Indika Rohana Jayamanne and two university workers are among the suspects, while the two university workers attached to the same university surrendered to police this morning.

Sabaragamuwa University students staged a silent protest in front of Balangoda police station when the suspects were taken out to be transported to the Magistrate Court this morning.

The students engaged in the picket while wearing black bands around their mouths and displaying posters with slogans.

Meanwhile, Sabaragamuwa University reopened for its first year students today and it will be opened for senior students on the 3rd of March.
