Senior National Building Research Organisation geologist  Dr. Gamini Jayatissa says that  20 earth slip risk sites have been identified in the Kandy – Mahiyangana 18th Hairpin bend road.

Due to this the geologist requests the people to use alternative roads when heavy rain prevails.

Transport on several Central Hill roads has been impeded due to earth slips caused by the prevalent inclement weather.

Transport has been impeded due to yesterday’s earth slip on the main Gampola – Kadugannaawa road.

The railway control room said that due to earth slip on the Bandarawela – Badulla railway line, transport on the upcountry railway track had been restricted up to Bandarawela.

Meanwhile, Thundershowers will develop at most places inland during the afternoon or evening..

Showers will occur in coastal areas around the island during the morning, too.

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.
