Disaster management officials requested the public not to visit Meeriyabedda as the area is prone to further landslides.

Disaster Management Center stated that the tri forces and police are engaged in rescue operations in the area.

At the same time, a helicopter has already been deployed for monitoring activities of the disaster hit area in Meeriyabedda.

Air Force Media spokesman Wing commander Gihan Senevirathna said a MI-17 helicopter has been kept ready for emergency rescue operations if necessary.

Meanwhile, an emergency meeting to discuss the rescue operations and provide relief to the victims was presided by Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera.
