Chief Government Whip Minister Dinesh Gunawardana said that the government would take the responsibility of the children affected in the Meeriyabedda landslide.

The minister stated this during the 2015 budget debate of its 5th day in parliament today.

818 persons who were displaced following the landslide at Meeriya-bedda village in Koslanda, Haldummulla have been sheltered in 2 camps.

According to the Disaster Management Centre’s Badulla District Coordinator A.L. Udaya Kumara, 320 among them are children

He added that a relief program is currently underway to provide aid for the affected people.
