Central Province Security Commander Major General Mano Perera said there are little clues to believe of any survivors of the Meeriyabedda landslide.

He told our news team that despite little hope of survivors, operations are underway in search of bodies of the missing.

Nearly 700 army soldiers and 52 airmen joined the search operations today.

At the same time, a Bel-212 helicopter and a MI-17 helicopter have been kept stand-by at Nuwara Eliya and Ratmalana air force camps for emergency call.

The Disaster Management Center stated that 192 persons are missing in the landslide that occurred in Meeriyabedda at Koslanda yesterday.

According to their latest statistics, 330 residents belonging to 57 families had occupied the ill-fated line-rooms.

Deputy Director of the Disaster management centre Pradeep Kodippilli said only 3 bodies of the missing have been recovered yet, and 63 houses were destroyed.

However when our news team contacted Badulla District Secretary Rohana Keerthi Dissanayake said the exact number of missing persons in the tragedy could not be announced as yet because many children had gone to school while some adults had gone for work at the time of the tragedy.

Meanwhile Central Province Security Commander Major General Mano Perera told our news team, the on-going search operations have been disrupted due to heavy showers lashing in the area.
