The army and relief teams have commenced operations this morning in search of persons buried at Meeriyabedda, Koslanda in Haldummulla.

According to our correspondent, 3 sniffer dogs belonging to the army have been utilized for the operation.

The Security Forces Commander of the Central Province Major General Mano Perera stated that it has been difficult to carry out the operations due to the adverse weather condition.

Disaster Management Center says that 144 persons are still missing following the landslide.

The Deputy Media Director of the Centre Sarath Lal Kumara stated that 320 families and 1067 persons have been affected by the landslide.

National Building Research Organization said that the landslide warning imposed on seven districts including Badulla had been extended till 7 p.m. today.

Accordingly this landslide warning will be effective in the Matale, Kandy, Kegalle, Ratnapura, Nuwara Eliya and Kalutara districts.

Similarly a landslide warning is effective with regard to the following roads:-

Aella – Waellawaaya, Haputale – Beragala, Beragala – Waellawaaya, Badulla – Springvalley, Passara – Lunugala, Aetampitiya – Waelimade, Badulla – Bandarawela, Badulla – Mahiyanganaya and Haaliaela – Waelimada.

Therefore the National Building Research Organisation requests the public to be watchful with regard to transport using these roads.
