It has been decided to take legal action against those who defy evacuation orders from land slide prone areas in Nuwara-eliya district.
Nuwara-eliya district secretary D P G Kumarasiri stated that this decision was taken during a special meeting chaired by Minister Arumugam Thondaman.
Meanwhile Deputy Director of the Disaster Management centre Pradeep Kodipillai stated that 11 thousand 245 persons belonging to 2710 families are affected due to adverse weather.
The National Building Research Organization has extended the landslide warning imposed on 7 districts until 5.30 PM tomorrow.
Accordingly, the warning has been issued for Badulla, Matale, Kandy, Kegalle, Ratnapura, Nuwara-eliya and Kalutara districts.
The meteorology department states that Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places over most provinces of the island particularly during the afternoon and night.
Showers may occur at several places along the coastal areas extending from Kankasanturai to Trincomalee and from Katunayaka to Matara via Colombo during the morning too.
Duty Meteorologist Malith Fernando requests the General public to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.
