The Department of Archaeology stated that they have found ruins of an ancient monastery during the excavations conducted at Situlpawwa Temple.

They added that the ruins, 13.5 meters long and 11 meters wide, might belong to the 1st or 2nd century.

The OIC of the project - Archaeology Research Assistant Buddhi Nagodawithana stated that the discovered ruins might belong to Situlpawwa monastery complex.
