No race or religion is suppressed; Asgiriya Cheif Prelate tells UK High Commissioner.-Video
Chief Prelate of Asgiri Chapter Most Venerable Udugama Sri Buddha-rakkhitha Thera stated that the government has never acted to suppress any race or religion.
The Chief Prelate stated this to the British High Commissioner John Rankin, when he paid a courtesy call on the Chief Incumbent.
He added that all races and religions in Sri Lanka have coexisted in harmony since ancient times.
The Chief Prelate also said that a certain group of the community attempted to revive terrorism by instigating racial hatred.
The British High Commissioner for Sri Lanka John Rankin paid his respects to the Temple of the Tooth Relic this morning and later paid a courtesy call on the Chief Prelate of Malwatu Chapter.
The Chief Prelate of Malwatu Chapter Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera stated that the minor incidents occurring in the country on certain occasions are common in other countries as well.
He also said that the country needs the support of countries such as UK to disseminate the true situation of Sri Lanka.
Later speaking during a media briefing, the British High Commissioner for Sri Lanka stated that the UK is ready to support the reconciliation process between the communities of Sri Lanka.
