Woman accuses Walapane Deputy Chairman for assault

A woman from Harasbedda, Walapane accused that the Deputy Chairman of Walapane Pradeshiya Sabha Ananda Hittatiyage has assaulted her.

The 43 year old injured woman, Wasantha Amaranayake, is currently receiving treatment at Nuwara Eliya General Hospital.

She told our news team that she was assaulted yesterday for objecting the Pradeshiya Sabha’s attempt to build a Community Hall at a land in Ragala which belongs to her. She further said that she is coordinating ‘Gamidiriya’ loan scheme and was subjected to an assault when she visited the post office to collect a loan installment from the wife of the Deputy Chairman.

When inquired from Walapane PS Deputy Chairman, he said that he has not assaulted the woman in question.  

According to the police media sources, Wasantha Amaranayake has lodged a complaint at Ragala Police regarding the assault incident, and an investigation is currently underway.
