US mid-terms: First polling stations close
Polls have closed in some eastern US states for mid-term elections which will decide who controls the Senate.
Early results show gains for the Republicans who already control the House of Representatives and need to win just six seats to take the Senate.
The AP news agency is reporting that Republican Senator and minority leader, Mitch McConnell, has retained his seat for Kentucky.
It is also reporting two Republican Senate wins in South Carolina.
As well as a third of the 100-seat Senate, all 435 members of the House of Representatives, 36 out of 50 state governors, and countless state and local offices are up for election.
