With the announcement e-Swabhimani 2014 winners at the gala at Cinnamon Grand only a day away (5), 50 best e-content and application producers demonstrated their creations at BMICH yesterday (4).
The Smart Society Congress, symbolized the country’s launch into Smart Sri Lanka as the latest phase of the e-Sri Lanka initiative implemented by the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA)
The Congress afforded a great opportunity for the e-Swabhimani 2014, the best e-Content and application award finalists, to explain their creations and benefit from the feedback from participants.
A large gathering of ICT enthusiasts and personnel from the Government, the academia and the private sector participated in the congress. Telecommunication and Information Ministry Secretary S.M.Gotabaya Jayarathne, ICTA Chairman, Senior Presidential Advisor and Peradeniya University Chancellor Prof. P. W. Epasinghe, ICTA CEO Reshan Dewapura and ICTA Strategic Communications and Media Director Athula Pushpakumara also graced the occasion.
A valuable book “Smart content for smart people – best practices of Sri Lankan e-Content and applications of 2014” containing the 49 white papers was also made available at the congress. These white papers form a stimulating and substantial contribution to the smart society the creation of which is envisaged under the Smart Sri Lanka initiative.
The 49 white papers were selected through e-Swabhimani 2014, Best e-Content and Application award of Sri Lanka.
These white papers while bench-marking the best e-content and applications developed in Sri Lanka in 2014 help take the innovations to national and international level.
It has been identified that most of e-content and applications are innovative in answering a problem in today’s world. For example, the white paper on iHelmet is a good solution for ordinary motorbike riders. It is an application developed for smart phones and ordinary helmets which uses Bluetooth, wireless and sensor-based technology to provide convenience and safety for motorbike riders.
